As of the time of writing this, the latest phpMyAdmin version is 4.4.11.

I agree, appearently it's being forgotten or left out. When I login to phpMyAdmin I see version: 4.0.10.7 while the latest stable version is: 4.4.8

cPanel had a later version of phpmyadmin, but they downgraded when they discovered that to maintain compatibility with MySQL 5.1 they need to run the current version installed. What would have made more sense to me would have been to branch the phpmyadmin installs and install the older version for servers running 5.1 and the up-to-date version for 5.5+.

I do not see reasone to force this, and in worst case forcing updates every time to latest version can just cause problems. It is better to wait little time in case any bugs and then update ... Also what would you get from these small updates, just to see "you are on latest version"?

This is on the roadmap for sometime later this year! Too, the plan includes making it easier to make PHPMyAdmin easier to updated in the future, so we can try to avoid this kind of problem in the future. Thanks so much for your continued feedback here!

Hi there, do we have an ETA on this being implemented? Later this year is ok, but I always like to plan changes ahead of time and having an estimate would be much more helpful.
It would also stop everyone here asking over and over again.

It will be implemented in version 58, which is being developed at the moment. It will be released to GA this year. Probably by the end of the summer.

Hi all! @cool_recep isn't quite right. We are aiming for v58, but it's not sure yet if it will land there. We're hitting Feature Freeze for what's going in version 58 on June 9th, and I'll be able to tell you if we've made it or not. I'll let everyone know on June 10th whether we made it!

Hey all! First, I have to apologize. The upgrade was not completed in v58, and I incorrectly relayed information here. The Director of Product Development is working on finding a space for this project to get it in to v60, but it's not yet clear where it will land.
There were two parts to the project (package and ship PHPMyAdmin as an RPM, and upgrade the version of PHPMyAdmin that we ship), and while part one (the RPM) was completed, the upgrade was not.
As soon as I have more information, I will let everyone know.

As I said, we were hoping to get this into version 62, but a few show-stopping bugs came up as we were attempting to merge. Unfortunately the updated RPM won't make the deadline. Given how close it is to complete, we should see this land easily in version 64, but I will definitely let you guys know for sure once it is in a public EDGE build.

The update is coming with version 64, and will be merged into that version soon! We're hoping to have a public version on the EDGE tier within 6-8 weeks, and are looking at releasing 64 to production tiers in Q2 of 2017.

I've got a local install of phpMyAdm for the latest version, but that is a pain as it requires manual maintenance.

The newer phpMyAdmin versions have such nicer features like SQL code autocompletion as you type, it recognizes table/columns names, lists all the MYSQL functions as you type, etc... oh and security issues fixed over the last few years :P

Good news! In version 64 we have upgraded PHPMyAdmin to 4.6.4, and we now have a mechanism in place to keep it updated going forward.
It's currently only in the EDGE tier, but if you have an EDGE server definitely take a look and let us know what you think!
