It's really hard to educate all users to subscribe to the spam folder especially it will only be created once there are spam received.
It's crazy to ask them to check day by day to see if the spam folder had already created yet or not for subscription.
Make use of the .Junk folder or auto-subscribe the .spam folder can definitely solve this problem.

I would like to see the reverse. Which is to allow you to select a different folder for spam. So I'm using ASSP Deluxe for cPanel, which puts all junk mail in a folder called spambox. Even though I select this in my email client, and unsubscribe to the Junk folder in the webmail apps, cPanel stubbornly insists on keeping Junk.
That should be up to the user, not the control panel.

I don't think this should be done. 99,9999% of us really need cPanel to have it's default folders in place and properly configure and advertise them to the clients, so people wound't complain like "oh I sent and email on my computer and it doesn't appear on my phone" or "oh, I trashed my computer and the emails I had aren't synced to the new computer".
I don't really understand why you would possible want not have the folders, it looks like of those cases where someone is attached to an old method of doing things and doesn't want positive change... and for this cases, we have the good old POP3 ;) Consider it or evolve.

I agree that the server admin at least should be able to set the name of the directory that is used for spam. This is partly due to the fact that most of the email clients that people use want to use Junk by default and not spam. Outlook is especially bad about wanting to use Junk and does not play nice with the subscribed folders hints via IMAP.

Almost all software already works with the Junk folder. Why can't we use that rather than spam? Lets make this more consistent.

All of our customers do not want this "spam" folder, we have to create this main.local template every time we update cpanel to delete "spam" and "Archives" folders, to keep only Drafts, Trash and Sent to auto = subscribe and Junk and Archive to only auto = create.
It would definitely help if the Mailserver Configuration could include this options to be customized to disable and/or select auto creation or auto subscription, and keep those options after every update.
Also, a funtion to unsubscribe and delete all "spam" folder and "Archives" from all email accounts in the server would be great, because even though it's deleted from the main.local, there are lot of accounts still keep them, and clean them manually in more than 700 emails account is really annoying.

Please add this feature! Not every client wants to use a folder called "spam," and even in the ones where you can customize it, they don't all support the subscription or some sort of "hide" feature. If we could control this at the server end by only having ONE folder (spam or junk, for example), that would be fantastic!

I just spent a few hours learning about all this web server mail folder/directory stuff, just because I'm sick of wasting screen space on my iPhone in the Mail folder list. I don't look at spam. Not ever. It is deleted automatically on the server. That's how I want it on my personal email account (my non-personal account is on GMail and I let GMail do its thing).
As a result, I have a useless Junk folder, a useless spam folder, and a useless Archive folder. None of these are used by me and I have no reason to use them. Regardless, I cannot delete them; the server just recreates them again. That's three lines of text I don't want and don't need, which make my folder list require scrolling on my device to see the last two folders in my folder list.
This is an end-user annoyance situation. I have zero interest in hearing why IT people object to adding this level of control over the user experience. As a tech person, I appreciate the source of their objections (I did support for over a decade and I know standards can potentially make support easier overall), but the solution is not to leave the user out of control. The solution is to let users have control on their end and do whatever it takes to allow that control on the server side.

I use 'Spam' as a standard (not 'spam'), and I don't want Junk, Trash, or any other spurious folder names for my users. I can't believe that two years down the line I am STILL having to recreate my main.local every time cPanel sees fit to delete it.
