Just came across this problem for the first time and had to comment.
The behaviour of this is simply wrong. The trash folder is a "live" folder that holds files temporarily before they are deleted. It would be fine if the content of that folder was deleted automatically - but it isnt. Messages remain there until deleted. I shouldn't have to point out the obvious reasons why this can (and does) cause problems for the customer and for us supporting them.
This trash folder needs to be counted as part of the quota.

I'm sorry, I don't understand this request.
Are you saying that the .Trash dir IS counted in quota & you don't want it to be?
...or...
Are you saying that the .Trash dir is NOT counted in quota & you DO want it to be?

The Trash folder is not included in the E-mail accunt's quota but in the main account's quota.
This is a kind of odd... And some work to find where the quota is used, as the mail account's Usage / Quota / % don't show / include the Trash folder.
WHM 11.48.1.3

We added the ability for dovecot to auto purge the Trash folder in 11.40. https://features.cpanel.net/topic/dovecot-trash-mail
Including the Trash folder in the quota can lead to a frustrating situation when a user is trying to reduce their disk usage by deleting messages because many mail clients do not purge the Trash folder. I would recommend reducing the time it takes for the system to auto-purge the Trash instead of including it in the quota if this is still a problem after enabling the auto-purge.

The Trash folder SHOULD be included in the quota. This is 2015, and if people can't figure out that they need to empty their trash folder, it's their own fault.
This is a live mail folder that actively takes up space, and there is no realistic reason it shouldn't be included. ESPECIALLY now that you can set it to auto-expunge.

We have another client can't figure out why not receiving emails, because the mailbox is only 8% full... it's very frustrating...
So please include the .Trash into mailbox quota OR exclude it from the account quota also.
I think the first one is more simle and realistic solution....

I also think that the .Trash into mailbox quota OR exclude it from the account quota also. We lose a lot of time for this issue cause the clients dont purge the trash...

Seems pretty basic cPanel folks...as you don't want a single email user to be able to keep an entire account from working.
