Set an overall quota for Email
These days everyone is using IMAP much more, due to the increased use of phones and other devices for email. As you'd expect, people tend not to maintain their mailboxes regularly and so in many cases it is Email that takes up the majority of space in a users account. This can represent hundreds of thousands of individual files, which take a long time to backup.
It would be very useful if we could impose an overall Email quota limit in MB on a package basis. This would help force the customer to keep their mailboxes maintained.
You could argue that the package limit should determine the overall quota, but I think it is reasonable to impose terms on the customer for example that an account's email storage should be no more than, say 25% of their usage . Currently there is no way to set such a limit.

Hi Nathan, No, I think this is a better option. I'm talking about a maximum total limit for all Email accounts. The feature request you linked to is not workable because it seems to suggest a maximum limit for each Email account.
So if I understand it correctly, with the other feature request, you could only set a maximum mailbox size - lets say to 50MB - then all mailboxes under that account would be set to a maximum of 50MB. I don't think that is very flexible.
With my suggestion, you have a total overall limit for Email and the individual quotas can be set as normal. So for example, you could set a 10GB package to allow a maximum of 5Gb for Email storage.
I think it would be nice to have both options though - maximum total Email quota and the ability to limit the maximum size of mailboxes and also to disable the "unlimited" option. The more flexibility the better!

I don't see why a host would want to limit total disk allowed for e-mails and it doesn't make much difference between a user storing alort of e-mails or small images or text files on his hosting account. Shouldn't it be up to your users how much is used for e-mails vs how much is used for other files ?
I do however see a point in allowing a user to set this limit, to stop the emails working before the website stops working or before he gets blocked out of his cPanel account…

What is increasingly less rare, is that customers are storing all their emails on the server indefinitely, just because they have been given the space to do so. Whether you choose to allow that, is down to your particular business model or policy.

I have changed my mind about this feature request and have just voted for it. We want to have email seprated from webhosting so moving email to a seperate user in order to have overall email quota now seems a good thing to us.

Hello, having huge mailboxes increases service and support costs to companies delivering services using cpanel.
Every admin should be able to decide how much space can a user hold on his own servers not cpanel.
Cpanel should urgently solve this issue that is simple enough to not get solved.

I have been watching this feature request for awhile (few years) and am disappointed in the lack of user input and/or cPanel response.
For our company, the perfect world would include an overall email disk quota. The per email limit that was added is helpful, but take this scenerio:
We want to offer a package that includes 10 email accounts and 10GB of email storage. Using the existing settings, we would limit the package to 10 email accounts with each email limited to 1GB.
This sounds fine in theory, but in the real world for every 10 email accounts there are 2-3 heavy users and 2-3 users that barely use email. On our server we have over 200 clients and most fall into this scenario. It becomes a nightmare monitoring and increasing specific user accounts.
It would make so much sense to add an overall email quota, where we could limit the total of all email accounts to XX MB. That way users that use more email can use more without needing to have their individual email account limit increased. A simple setting like the image would work great.
