Never disable remote backup destination automatically
Please DO NOT DISABLE BACKUP DESTINATION with the new backup system. Sorry for the caps, but this is horrible. It makes the backup system really unreliable.
I have tons of servers. About once in a month the backup to the remote FTP/SFTP is failing (don't know why and don't really care if it's only once in a while).
The huge problem is: The backup destination gets disabled and I need to manually re-enable it each time. Over and over... I get nuts of it. Please DO NOT DO THIS :(
I never saw any other software disabling backups because of this. Furthermore the local disk gets filled as well since I normally use the option to wipe after transferring.
There has been option in one of the versions to not disable them, but it didn't work (could not activate it) and furthermore it seems removed again.
The backup system in cPanel & WHM version 11.42 will no longer auto-disable backup destinations.

why would anyone even dream of disabling a working backup? I just found one of my production servers disabled the ftp backup destionation 4 days ago and now no backups. the ftp is working fine with the old backup sistem otherwise, the new sistem times out sometimes and i do not care why. the next day it should continue

This is absolutely necessary.
This is absolutely necessary.
FTP destinations should not be disabled if a connection cannot be made,
the FTP destination could be temporarily offline when the attempt to
connect was made and should come back on and when it does come back on
the backups should continue to run as scheduled to the FTP destination,
however disabling the FTP because the destination is temporarily offline
will make the FTP not run once the destination comes back on.
Also, if the test to see if FTP destination is online
and available is using a ping then it should not be a ping because many FTP destinations have
ping disabled and firewalled to protect against online threats.

Any solution to this stupid Idea Cpanel had ?

I agree to all the above.
In addition I'm REALLY curious to what was going to this employers head when he thought this up and if (and if so 'why') he is still working for Cpanel.
This must have been an interesting meeting in the developers team: today the backup failed because of a connection problem, lets make really sure the backup won't succeed tomorrow by disabeling some stuff...

Great to hear it's supposedly been fixed!!
I wait for the edge version and hope it's in there soon and that it's the default behavior not to disable them ;)

I have the exact same issue - if there is ever an authentication error, it disables the backup destination. I'm on 11.46.2.

I'm on cPanel WHM 11.50.0 (build 10) ... and my remote backup connection STILL auto-disables after one failed remote FTP connection attempted.
Why did you lie to us Kenneth Power ?

I confirm that backup storage STILL gets autodisabled after one failed backup transfer:
----------------------
[my.hostname.tld] Backup transport errors.
Preview of transport errors log:
Unable to send “/backups/weekly/2015-08-09/accounts/mydomain.tar.gz” to destination “Storagename”
I have WHM 11.50 build 29.
