Make cPanel notifications and news in SEEN status

We would like to make cPanel notifications and news in seen status as soon as they got viewed from cPanel notification bar.

For example in the following print screen is shown that there are general news, which are calculating as notifications and there is number "1" over the bell icon. That notification number is permanent because the news are always there.

It will be nice to have seen status for news or other cPanel notifications, because the permanent notification number is disturbing on every cPanel login. Actually this is a static information which is not regularly changing and it doesn't make sense to have it as awaiting notification even if it was already viewed by the client.

Thank you in advance!

We've done some pre-visualization of what this would look like. See attached. Comments (especially if we're heading the wrong way) definitely welcome!

I'm voting the first style as it's more modern and clear.

I like the first one as well, maybe a few more screenshots of what the first one would like when possible. I think it's a better UX than the second. Nice job team.

Ok. I took that first mock up and dressed it up a bit. How's this?

Alerts - Things that can't be dismissed without doing something.

Messages - things that are "for your information" or can otherwise be dismissed safely.

I like this direction better, however when using red... use grey instead of the green. It visually looks better in my humble opinion.

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response!

We have several questions about the pre-visualization which you have attached.

As fas as we can see there will be 2 sections - Messages and Alerts. Are they planned to be part of actual Notifications(bell icon) menu and also what will be the difference between them?

Is the bell icon going to have a count value for all awaiting notifications like now? If yes, then is it able to make them seen so the number be invisible for client who has already checked (read) all the notifications(alerts and messages).

On the screen you showed , there are like 3 notifications (system news) about reseller login, planned downtime and Addon remaining. Are they part of the alerts because we noticed that there is no count(3) on the bell icon, while they are active.

We do appreciate all additional information what you can give us about the visualization .

Kind regards!

So these are two different pre-visuals which show two possible approaches we were considering. We haven't settled on an approach we like just yet either!

re Notification (bell) icon - Yes, this menu (in both of these two approaches) would appear when you click on the notification icon in the top header. It would fly-out over the interface as pictured in the second pre-viz. In all instances, the total number of notifications would be reflected next to the bell icon like it currently functions. (akin to push notifications on mobile). When someone is using a smaller screen size, we may just put a dot next to the bell icon to indicate unread notifications.

re differences between Messages and Alerts - we're not sure yet. Something we're still discussing internally as well. At present, we do know that there are a couple of use-cases that this feature would need to cover:

  • system generated messages that can be dismissed
  • system generated messages that can NOT be dismissed (without taking action like cleaning up disk space usage or purchasing a larger email account quota, etc)
  • Messages sent from Root or Reseller that could optionally have an expiration date (for notices of downtime that become irrelevant after the downtime has completed, or for up-sell promotions which last only a limited time)

re read/unread status - yup, users will be able to mark a message as read/unread and as a result clear up the unread number next to the bell icon.

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed answer.

Your ideas are pretty good and we think that making these changes would be very useful.

They will cover our needs and for sure other customers as well.

Probably the second pre-visual looks better to us and is closer to the current one.

We hope you plan to develop and implement them as soon as possible.

I'd like to see an option in the user profile settings to ignore news messaging. Occasionally there maybe a client/user that would like to opt-out of not critical news. Calling attention to what unread and unwarranted upsell/messaging notifications it would be cool to have a feature to opt-out.

Think of the iPhone, how annoying it is when you have an app that you don't use all that often but it keeps popping up {hey look at me}. You click on it and immediately exit the program just to get rid of the number badge. I can go into the settings of the iPhone to not allow the notifications of the application.
