Keep DNS records that don't point to the account's IP when transfering from another server
As a System Administrator, I would like to improve the account transfer process so that it does not edit DNS records that do not point to the account's IP address and also so that it does not change TTL for existing DNS records.
==========
One of our customers has his own VPS for hosting his website and uses his cPanel account to manage DNS, E-mail, and sub-domains.
We needed to move his account to a new cPanel server. We first reduced his account's TTL to 300 seconds 4 hours before the transfer, we then used the transfer tool and selected the express transfer option.
This caused two issues :
1- The A record for his domain was changed to the account's new IP address making his website unaccessible.
2- The TTL was set to 4 hours, so when we changed the IP back to the correct IP it then took 4 hours for some of his visitors before they could see his website again.
What we would like would be for cPanel to only replace DNS records that pointed to the previous account's IP address and as well as keeping existing DNS zone entries TTL (and just changing the IP).
Howdy,
We currently have an open case to investigate this: CPANEL-40401. I'm going to bring this information to that case to help us better solve that.
