Increase WHM's Backup Restoration UI Pageload Speed

John Hawkins shared this idea 7 years ago

As a server administrator, I would like WHM's backup restoration UI to compile its database of sortable accounts behind the scenes (perhaps after the actual backup run) and not upon WHM 'Backup Restoration' page load. If you have a large number of backups retained (terabytes) it can take 5 minutes or longer for WHM to assemble the required listing and load the UI to the user.

This may also be considered a bug, but I think perhaps falls as squarely in feature territory - as the utility is working properly, but just does not take into account large file sets.

This has been completed in cPanel & WHM Version 76. Take a look at this and all features in 76 in the Version 76 Release Notes.

Quick update on this topic from cPanel support:

"Testing has shown that the UI is stalling while trying to validate dates for files with the incremental backups. Internal testing shows that this is not an issue with Compressed or Uncompressed backups(not incremental)."

This bug has been given the case number CPANEL-20237 and will hopefully be addressed in an upcoming patch. I actually worked with the support team on this topic in May, but never got around to posting an update here.

Hey John! Based on what I'm seeing, while that case wasn't published, the problem should've been resolved in the work we did with version 70. Have you looked at it recently?

Hi Benny! Unfortunately not; I just ran a test and it takes over 20 minutes to load WHM's restore UI. Specifically - the windows are still loading in the background with 23 minutes on the clock. Im just tired of waiting! The issue presents both on our production server on v.72 and our dev server which just got bumped to v.74.

IIRC, I think we actually opened our support ticket in May because of the work conducted in v.70 - as it was thought the issue should have been resolved in that release, but we were seeing otherwise on our servers. The support team at that time confirmed the date validation issue for incremental backup volumes, and then gave us the 20237 case number to watch for.

Hope this helps, and thanks so much for diligently checking up on this item.
