htaccess overwrite cpanel default redirect for webmail folder

Can htaccess overwrite cpanel default redirect for /webmail folder? If it does please provide us the working code, if not please accept this as our feature request:

Please someone in cpanel provide us with options or a solution for how we can set the /webmail folder to redirect to webmail.domain.com (for example) as most of our clients will not be using the cpanel webmail choices (many of our clients use exchange or other solutions, plus we prefer not having the additional stress of emails received to our web servers). After much searching I see many asking but only a few answers with workarounds and hacks to files that some of us don't have access to and which are lost when updating.

Ideally WHM and cpanel will add a feature allowing us to set a default for all accounts plus have an option for each domain where it can be set to custom URL or use normal internal cpanel webmail.

We need cpanel /webmail to be configurable or overwritten so, for example, www.domain.com/webmailgoes to http://webmail.domain.com instead if cpanel's webmail login which will only confuse our clients who call us saying "I can't login..!" We can set CNAME, DNS, MX, etc for all the domains both in their cpanel and with their registrar(s) to point to the appropriate services... but we cannot see how to set the folder www.domain.com/webmail so it goes where we want it to:

(1) My first suggestion would be to have them all go to webmail.domain.com which we can all easily set in DNS to go where we want it to (cpanel default DNS could point to www.domain.com:2096 or equivalent).

(2) Or, if redirecting is too complicated have your internal script first check if we have the folderwww.domain.com/webmail so we can easily add a /webmail folder that redirects as we choose in each of our websites not using the cpanel default webmail.

Please tell us our best solution is not our having to edit /usr/local/cpanel/APACHE_CONFIG -- we see many references to this solution, like here: http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/preservi...es-125733.html and here:http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/disable-...in-119517.html plus this one has some helpful info too:http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/change-w...ain-63436.html

In cPanel & WHM version 11.50 it will be possible for the server admin to override some of the aliases, such as /webmail and /cpanel. The changes are preserved across updates.
