Domain email forwarding to remote mail server.
Open Discussion
Any email for domain.com must go to remote mail server
remote.server.com as user@domain.com.
The current forwarding can only be to an email address or to another
domain, not to a remote server hosting the domain.
We currently have this feature on our mail servers and use it for a lot of clients that have onsite email servers on dynamic ip addresses. We are migrating to WHM / Cpanel and WHMCS and require this so that we can manage everything from one platform.
Thank you so much for your request! Can you elaborate a bit more about your current setup? In your scenario, are the mx records for domain.com pointing to the server on which the domain's website is hosted? or are they set to remote.server.com?
It sounds to me like you might be encountering a problem with what we call remote and local domains. Typically, in a setup like this (if I understand it correctly), you would just need to set the domain to a remote email destination in WHM >> Edit DNS Zone. Does that sound like it might resolve the problem?

Hi there,
How we do it is we have the mx records pointing to the cpanel server, and then we either retrieve those emails on the clients side mail server using etrn or in some cases where the client has a vpn to us or a static ip we just set the mail server our side to forward the emails on to the remote host where the pop boxes are set up.
thanks and regards,
Grant Pasley.

No problem! I think we should definitely leave this feature request to see if it will gain any traffic, but I also recommend opening up a ticket with our support department to see if we can find a good way to resolve this in our current environment. If you're interested in that, you can open up a ticket here: https://tickets.cpanel.net/

Hi there,
Ok cool, I did log it as a support ticket first and was told it is not possible and that I should log it as a feature request.
thanks and regards,
Grant Pasley.

We would like this too. We have quite a few customers who would like to mix exchange with cPanel accounts on the same domain. Exchange is already compatible and it’s just cPanel that isn’t.
This would also allow a workaround for cPanel’s currently unusable MailOnly due to cPanel’s decision to not include the ability to have different mail quotas to web quotas.
