Option to use XMPP over an encrypted protocol added to the Contact Manager
Open Discussion
As a Server Administrator, I want an option to use XMPP over an encrypted protocol added to the Contact Manager, so that I can receive server notifications via a secure method.
Ok there are linux RPM's for Jabber over TLS/SSL. The idea here is to abandon AIM/ICQ altogether for sending plain text information. I was under the impression that the form post data like SMF forums uses would send skype messages securely to the end client skype client on windows?
This is a feature that has been migrated over from the cPanel Forums. All previous comments and discussions concerning this feature can be located at:

In the spirit of what Benny suggested, I've written a plugin to do just that:

Do realize that I have only verified that this works for me. Please file any issues on the GitHub project if you encounter what you deem to be bugs or potential improvements to my implementation.

I like this feature, AIM and ICQ are really outdated, you can keep them if you want, but XMPP is a really a must have nowadays since most smartphones have Gtalk (or a Jabber client) and it's worldwide used more than the others.

The first time this request popped up was 2010 (possibly even earlier) and the status back then was "Filed with developers". Nothing happend there, however. Still not a single new contact method.

Keep in mind that Gtalk is about to drop xmpp support as soon as gtalk goes away.

I run an internal xmpp server for employees. I know many other web hosts that also do this. I'd like to see xmpp added as a feature so cPanel can notify our admins directly through the chat service that we use.

While this specific improvement doesn't answer the feature request, I did want to mention that in version 64 we added the ability to create a notification plugin, and documented that here:
https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/CKB/How+to+Create+a+Notification+Plugin+for+WHM
If you have questions about that document, or creating a plugin in general, you can open a ticket with our support team or email me.
