As a non-English user I want my language to have the same level of coverage of cPanel & WHM as English so I can have the best experience possible using the language I am most familiar with.

1. No text within images

2. No hard coded text where a localized version is possible

Our goal is to have both X3 and Paper Lantern completely localized for 11.46. The majority of the work has been completed for X3. We are now ensuring that, where ever possible, Paper Lantern is using the same strings as X3.

Please keep in mind that only the themes will have complete coverage. Text generated by the backend (e.g. errors direct from the OS, messages generated by sub systems) may still be non-localizable.

We are also expanding our language coverage to a total of 29. The list of languages is:

  • Arabic
  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Dutch (Netherlands)
  • Filipino
  • Finnish
  • French (France)
  • German (Germany)
  • Greek
  • Hebrew
  • Hungarian
  • Indonesian
  • Italian (Italy)
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Malay (Malaysia)
  • Norwegian
  • Polish
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Romanian
  • Russian
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Swedish
  • Thai
  • Turkish
  • Ukrainian
  • Vietnamese

Demo servers, and development builds, will be available for those who want an early preview. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

there are also many untranslated labels in Russian translations.

would be great if we can somehow report missing/incorrect translations(and suggest the right one?)

You started active work on fixing the languages some time ago but it seems to have been abandoned. Could we please have an update on when something will be done to fix cPanel's translations.

As I've already said in multiple places, the most expensive solution is for cPanel to pay multiple translators in multiple languages to activly translated any new variables before they make it to stable version. The cheapest solution would be for cPanel to provide an online system like lots of others already do so that people can propose translations.

We have already sent cPanel French translations but it was never used. On every new server we have to replace "change programming language" (changer de langage) with "change language" (changer de langue) and go through all expressions that are wrong.

Please do something about this, you have been promissing it for multiple years now.

monarobase, thank you for your feedback and patience on this matter. We are expecting improved translations to appear with cPanel & WHM version 11.42. Please keep in mind this is tentative. I expect version 11.42 to appear February 2014. Again, tentatively.

We have contracted with several translation companies over the last couple years. Each resulted in very poor quality. The translation company we currently are using appears to have much better quality.

Last week we sent them our strings for translation. All current non-English translations will be redone. To those we are adding a number of other languages.

As for the specific example you gave me, are there any diacritics that should be in changer de langue ? I'm assuming the C and the L need capitalized, hence Changer de Langue.

Hello,

In French only the first letter of a sentence should be captialized.

It's very difficult to translate a language out of context. I made a small mistake in my example, because it's change the language of the interface so it should be :

Changer la langue

only the first letter of a sentence in French should be capitalized.

If you have any issues with the French translations, I know a good translater from English to French. In order to get good translations the language you are translating to has to be your native language so your translation company would need to have someone in France.

I know cPanel is a paid product but there are lots of paid products where it's the customers to help with the translation. I've already translated most of cPanel multiple times but there seems to be no point in doing this as at the moment cPanel doesn't apply the modifications to all customers.

Thanks for the ETA, and if you want to run any French translations by me please let me know and I will happily check and see if there are any expressions that are'nt in French French as opposed to Canadian French.

Regards,

Richard Hordern

Update on Localization

Where are we at? A few months ago I wrote that we were expecting improved translations for cPanel & WHM version 11.42. As is the way with projects, initial timelines are optimistic at best. While we have received initial deliverables of many translations, due to some technical quality issues we won’t be able to provide them in an 11.42 update.

I’m hoping we’ll be able to get the issues resolved, and ship the translations soon.

I have a blog article online with a little more information: http://blog.cpanel.net/localization-more-languages-better-quality/

After HostingCon (Jun 17, 18) we'll have more information to share.

I have some updates to share.

1. Both Paper Lantern and X3 will have very good localization support in 11.46. The focus here are the UI assets found in the x3 and paper_lantern directories

2. We have received translations for the 29 languages

3. We will setup a public demo server soon, containing the translations. Since the translations require the significant changes we made in 11.46 to work properly, we felt this was the best possible way for people to preview the translations

4. Our strings, both English and other languages, will put on github (https://github.com/CpanelInc/cplocales). This will be the official place to submit bug reports, bug fixes, and community provide locales. We are still working out some kinks in work flow and policy. We intend to have these ironed out before 11.46 is available.

5. Text generated on the backend will still be a mixture of localizable, and hard-coded English.

6. WHM UI assets are still a work in progress. I would venture a guess at between 10 and 35 percent of the WHM UI is localizable.

Note: if would like to proof the new translations right now, knowing that they won't work properly on 11.44 and older, please feel free to let me know.

I don't know about other translations but the Turkish translation is a joke. Clearly the people who made the translation have no idea about hosting or internet technologies or software in general. For example they translate "Changelog" at the top menu as having the meaning "Change the Logs" in Turkish. There are lots of similar errors.
