add "weekly" backup to new backup system without keep 7 days of retentions

If we want to have weekly backup on "new"cpanel backup system, we need to make daily run everyday.

If this way, we need to keep "7" retentions of daily backup that will cost us a lot to upgrade backup drives

We just want to keep:

  • daily => one retention so if server crashes, we have "latest" backup to restore
  • weekly => one retention too, to let client could find old files when they make mistakes on file edition and do not notice it in time

Most of the time, weekly is the most useful backup files for clients coz 95% of them notice problems days later, so daily is usually not useful but just for server disaster use.

Also, we do NOT want client to restore 7 DAYS of backup from MON-SUN for just trying to find what they want, which might cause server problems.

so, to resolve these issues, please add a function to let us decide "how many retentions" too keep on each frequency.

cPanel & WHM version 11.42 has the weekly backup option as part of the backup configuration.

Version 11.42 is available to EDGE, CURRENT, and RELEASE tiers. It will shortly be available in the STABLE tier.

This is absolutely needed . We have lost a level of back up under the new system.

The weekly backup option is still maintained in the Legacy Backup System. Are you saying that you want a "Backup Weekly" option under the "Scheduling and Retention" section of the new backup system?

The legacy backup system is being removed.

+1 for this

Pretty much a no brainer. Why cPanel doesn't get this is beyond me.

+1 Weekly option with retention control would be nice. One week/month? Every two weeks? Every other week?

Yes, exactly. There is daily, and two monthly dates... but no weekly. The weekly option needs to be added. Weekly is the most commonly restored backup date for our customers and we can't switch to new backup system until it is possible.

Simple. It's because cpanel is run by business people and developers, not be actual hosters. In other words, cpanel is out of touch with what their customers actually need. Instead, we get this pointless "feature voting" system where missing functionality such as this "feature request" can be mentioned and then ignored.

An alpha of cPanel & WHM version 11.42 is currently available. If you wish to test the alpha please subscribe to our edge-users list.

We expect version 11.42 to reach the EDGE tier sometime this month.

Ken thanks for the update. While I do not have a box that I can run an edge release on, I am fully confident that this request is being fully addressed and I do appreciate that the c{anel folks listen to requests and feedback form users.

Please i need the weekly backup feature retained in the new backup system. It is the most used backup out of all 3.

Thanks.
