ActiveSync with Z-Push

AdminWim shared this idea 10 years ago
Completed

With the upgrade of Horde to version 5, it seemed obvious that ActiveSync would be included.

Apparently the feature was dropped from the cpanel version.

Please support ActiveSync as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Thanks for the posting this feature request!

I agree ActiveSync should be included.

Please cPanel, provide us with this feature.

Any way we could get it in the next build (25) stable version?

Thanks,

Hi cPanel, We are in the era Mobile, please activesync as soon as possible: D

photo

I think this is not serious, or Cpanel is not taking things seriously, or other companies with cpanel plugins to press for Activesync not activate in Horde.

I hope a solution will soon be put as from version 1.32, this project is continually delayed.

We are now in the mobile era, where mobility is very important. And while all companies that rely on Cpanel, still waiting a year behind another year.

It is intended to enable Activesync in Cpanel?

Would be nice to know if we should expect to Cpanel, or watch other panels that give us the functionality our customers demand.

photo

This is extremely important, at present cPanel is not a viable email hosting platform.

photo

With our web hosting customers the ActiveSync Future is always in demand by Horde 5. Customers want this function urgently. I therefore ask the developers quickly install the ActiveSync feature in cPanel.

Best regards

Jan

Give us SyncML/ActiveSync! :)

I have users leaving due to cPanel not supporting synced calendars and contacts. I'll need to leave cPanel soon if this isn't ever going to be supported.

I have started moving the heavy email users to office 365. With Microsoft "giving" away 1TB OneDrive cloudspace per user, I decided to trhow in the towel. In my case cpanel access for my customers is now no longer a requirement.

So I took away that access. I must say that with one exception, the responses have been extremely positive.

It really is not possible to compete with a solution like that using a tool like cpanel, which is really not suitable for the 21st century. So the road is now open to look for a much simpler and cheaper solution that just hosts some websites and only provides administrator access.

All that to say, I am personally no longer interested in this feature.

Hi cPanel Devs ! Hey, as fantastic cPanel is for our use since quite some years now, ActiveSync is really the next feature which has to get implemented as soon as possible. Nearly everyone needs to get it's smartphone in sync with his email / contacts / calendars nowadays ! Please consider adding it really soon...

photo
2

We are currently working on CalDAV( http://features.cpanel.net/responses/caldav-support-shared-calendars) and CardDAV(http://features.cpanel.net/responses/carddav-support) integration. Soon afterward we anticipate adding support for Activesync.

any timeframe when activeSync will be available?

Is active sync going to be a feature we can turn on and off based on the package, so we can monetize this? There'd be some amazing potential for new revenue to be charging $5 / account like M$ is

This cannot come soon enough. I'm so sick of IMAP. I cannot believe mass adoption has taken this long.

To be clear, right now we are not focused on ActiveSync for email. We are evaluating ActiveSync for Calendaring and Contacts.

Also if ActiveSync worked for email, it would just be layered on top of IMAP.

We have no plans at the moment for ActiveSync itself to be a separate feature. Rather it will be part of the Calendar and Contacts feature. The latter is something you can specify per Account, or Account Plan.

Outlook 2013 support needs to be implemented as a priority. I'm loath to admit it, but it really stinks that I have to look at potentially moving my clients to Office 365 as well. If that happens, then folks will wonder why there emails aren't on there as well, and why they have to pay for additional services when they're already paying for a server.

photo
1

Any update on when? It seems it's in Horde 5.1 and this is the missing link to be able to use cP as a replacement for Exchange, allowing Android/iOS mobiles and Outlook2013 to work for email/contacts/calendar.

photo
1

Agree, this will be a Office 365 killer, this should be added as a main feature request!

photo
2

completely agreed. this feature couldn't be more important. the next thing then would be some sort of Amazon AWS integration feature for storing archived email in Glacier . . .

photo
2

Hello cPanel,

This feature request has been here for a much too long time ! Please show us you can do it ! This is really the killer-feature, don't miss it...

Any forecast for a possible release date (or timeframe) ?

Thanks in advance !

photo

+1 — Please, this is absolutely essential. Is there a social group that we can post this request to to build up some steam?

photo
2

I'm tired of waiting for this feature ^^

How to connect shared calendar to Outlook? Use CalDAV? Install 3rd party app for sync caldav and Outlook?

photo
2

Would be nice to sync Contacts,Calendar, Tasks to MS Outlook, Android and IOS devices instead of using office 365.

photo
2

As a client of cpanel I would like to have an alternative solution to my clients. That can be activated in packages or in some way by each client. And we can provide more service to my client. Cpanel appreciate to help at this stage of growth for our clients with ActSync.

photo
2

I find it very frustrating that I have this amazing server running cpanel and whm, and I can't provide a single sign-on for email calendar and contacts. Ridiculous really. When is this going to become a priority?

photo
1

I don't know, but I'm in the same boat. You would think that something like this would be a necessity and something cPanel would prioritize in this day and age.

photo
1

It is stunning that this isn't one of the highest priorities for cPanel. We have all the components to offer the sort of modern groupware people are demanding, but cPanel never fully enables the pieces, which means cPanel hosts keep falling further behind the bigger competition.

photo
photo
3

Hey all! I'm so sorry I missed this conversation! I'm going to reach out internally and see where we're at with this. I likely won't have an update for you all anytime before Monday, but I'll definitely get back here with information as soon as I have it.

photo
2

I got a chance to talk to our Development Director about this. It looks like this was moved to Planned as one of our teams started to research it. Due to some internal staffing and project motion we ended up being forced to table this feature for a future release, and it hasn't gotten back on our radar yet.

The right (read: maintainable and feature-full) way to do this is to add ActiveSync to cPanel itself, allowing the feature to be completely independent of your webmail application. Doing so means one of our release teams would likely be tied up with this for an entire release cycle.

So, know that this is something we want to see thsi added to the product, and that we're hoping to find the time for it as soon as possible, but that it's not likely to make it in before 64.

photo
2

Thanks for the update Benny. I really do hope you guys give this the attention it deserves and soon! Customers see this as a requirement and I'm having to use alternative solutions to give them what they want instead of hosting them on my default cPanel environments.

photo
2

I'd agree with @osirion. If you can pull together the pieces so we can offer an ActiveSync compatible groupware service, regardless of whether it is directly from Horde or not, that is about the most important thing I think cPanel could focus on right now. As it is, it makes it harder to compete without it...

photo
photo
1

before 64. You mean before 2064??

photo
1

I'm so sorry for the confusion. I meant to indicate cPanel & WHM version 64. That should be out Q1 in 2017.

photo
1

Are we actually talking about ActiveSync that can replace Exchange in a way- similar to what Kerio Connect does (they have mail, cal, card native on iPhone/Android etc) and a agent to fix sync in Outlook? It is so easy when you can just setup one e-mail account and get support for everything at once. Isn't activesync licensed product so one would have to pay per instance used?

photo
1

ActiveSync is just a protocol, in this context. You can read more about it here:

https://wiki.horde.org/activesync

photo
2

So you are talking about making the EAS, so that you can get mail+contacts+calendar into newer versions of Outlook with one setup instead of the manual imap+caldav+contactdav (that is to complicated for most non-it people). If that is what we are talking about, then it is awesome! For most people, they can then drop Exchange-server.

I took a look at 64 release notes, https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/64Docs/64+Release+Notes

I don't see activesync listed in the release notes? Is it available in EDGE 11.63.9999.84 to test?

photo
2

Unfortunately it is not in version 64, but I'm planning to bring this back up at our version 66 planning meeting next week.

photo
3

Curious, did Activesysync get put back on the feature list for version 66? Thanks Benny

photo
1

It's been a couple of weeks since your message, how did the meeting go?

photo
1

Unfortunately this didn't get picked up for version 66. Based on what I was seeing I don't think this will get picked up in 2017, but I'll still bring it up at every planning session!

photo
2

Thats really disappointing!

photo
1

No attention from team at all ? Regarding a such critical feature asked for since several years ? I'd say that's much more than just disappointing ! Definitely will have to find a better way as cPanel doesn't seem to care.

photo
1

I'm not sure that "doesn't care" is fair, but I can see how it feels like that. Hopefully we'll see it sooner!

photo
photo
1

What about 65? This is a killer feature - I would move so much more to cloud cP instead of running on-prem and custom vps.

photo
1

Odd numbered versions are our development builds. For example, version 63 is the development build for 64. 65 will be the development build for 66. You can read about our development cycle on the cPanel blog.

photo
1

Cheers Benny, I was being slightly tongue in cheek meaning that this can't come soon enough for me :) Good luck for the meeting next week, I hope it gets included at last. Thx!

photo
1

Oh! That makes a whole lot more sense. And me too!

photo
1

I'd second, Martin. This would go so far towards making cPanel hosts competitive with things like Office 365 for small business hosting. Offering standard IMAP is feeling increasingly inadequate in this market... We really need Exchange compatible groupware and if we can do it through Horde or something else, it would be great.

photo
1

I won't be able to stall much longer moving customers to other email solutions and then keeping the low margin webhosting with cpanel. If I I am doing on a server is hosting websites, I don't need cPanel. If you want the value-add of using cPanel, then we need to be able to keep email and web apps on the same box with activesync functionality for email, calendars and contacts. CalDav and CardDav won't cut it against the competition. I have a test box with the most recent release of Horde and Activesync and it is working great. Will need to move away from cPanel soon if we can't get this functionality built into cPanel. I was hoping it would be in the 63 EDGE build for testing. 66 is six months out isn't it, even before it is in EDGE for testing?

photo
1

agree, mailserver/hostingpanel without ActiveSync is like you run a hosting business without a control panel software and pay cash. its a feature that makes the whole cpanel solution like others and not better. so its a must. we have a lot of customers that have hosting on cpanel and email at office365.

photo
1

It's a shame to see that after all these years, ActiveSync still has not been integrated with cPanel. It is a critical feature that has sadly been neglected here. There is a massive market for SME's who use a full-blown Microsoft Exchange Server just for it's ActiveSync feature - transferring them over to cPanel would be a breeze once ActiveSync is here. I hope this is something that will be implemented very soon - it's been long enough.

photo
photo
3

One huge reason why we would like Activesync is for customers who often use wifi hotspots that only allow web based ports (80 and 443). One of our customers recently asked why a free service like hotmail worked but not his professional paid cPanel e-mail.

Allowing customers to sync e-mail over port 443 would make a huge difference to any customers who travel alot as well as mobile phone users.

photo
2

Is ActiveSync ever going to happen in cPanel? I can't even begin to describe what a gamechanger this would be, if it was properly implemented and supported email/contacts/calendar.

It's 2020, and it's a mobile world, and right now our only options using cPanel are a bunch of independent accounts, URLs, and passwords, all added to each device manually. ActiveSync can do all of this with a single login.

Everyone is just moving these services to G Suite and Office 365, because adding imap, carddav, caldav, etc. all manually is absolutely ridiculous.

Can we please get this looked at again? Send out a survey if there's any doubt about the desire for this; No one at cPanel seems to understand what an absolute GAMECHANGER this would be. We've been asking for this for over 5 years now!

photo
2

Whole-heartedly agree with "brt" - we lose customers to other solutions when this could be implemented in cPanel?

photo
1

100% agree. I've already lost many email hosting clients to this reason, and I actually agree with my clients. They get a calendar request and if they accept it, it means nothing. Not all platforms support CalDAV and CardDAV, and they don't work together with emails either. Please, ActiveSync.

photo

We are currently researching bringing ActiveSync to the product. It wouldn't be done via Horde, but would give you access to email, calendar, and contacts via the ActiveSync protocol. Stay tuned for more info.

Thanks!

Even better! This would have been the only reason I would have enabled Horde.

Is there ANY vague idea on when we MIGHT expect this to be usable?

Development has begun on adding ActiveSync support to the product using Z-Push. A beta/preview version of this will be available in Version 96, with full support coming in Version 98.
