Ability to Remove the webmail icon in cPanel while keeping webmail active

As a WHM user, I want to remove the webmail icon in cPanel while keeping webmail active, so that cPanel users are not confused by using this interface

Reason 1.

The icon in cpanel is entitled Webmail so it is safe to assume that the cpanel user will want to click this to read their email but this very rarely results in that happening.

As discussed clicking the icon displays some text which tells them to click another icon in order to read their email.

When they click the icon they are more often than not taken to an empty mailbox because they have not chosen Horde as their webmail client or because Horde is not installed. This results in unwanted support tickets and a poor experience for the customer.

That is reason enough for many hosts to want to disable this feature. It is confusing for the end user and regularly causes both us and them hassle. Unfortunately the feature cannot be disabled.

Reason 2.

Even if this worked correctly it is not appropriate to provide such easy access to all the hosting account's mailboxes in one click. The cpanel user is quite often not someone who should have that level of access. You could argue that if they wanted to snoop around they could access the messages from the file system or change the passwords - but in reality most cpanel users wouldn't know how to view the messages from within the folders. Only someone very determined to access someone elses email would risk changing their passwords.

Unfortunately this feature makes it extremely easy for the cpanel user to read the email accounts of anyone they have been set up for and in most cases that is not appropriate. Why give someone an open opportunity to snoop around? I can see that it could have it's uses for some customers but not the majority so we would like the ability to disable it.

Reason 3.

We simply don't want the webmail icon available in cpanel. As you'd expect we provide details to customers explaining how to access their webmail. To keep things simple and so that everything runs smoothly we want to restrict these methods. The customer knows that they should go to domain/webmail and so there is simply no reason to have this additional icon in cpanel which does't work properly anyway and causes the confusion explained above.

Another thing, if a cPanel user wants to snoop around in other mailboxes of that cPanel account he can just go to the filemanager and navigate to the users mailbox. Hiding the webmail icon does not solve this.

"Disabling the default Webmail icon in cPanel disables Webmail access all-together".

Ok, that I did not know. Tested and conclusion that the above is correct. It is still possible to logon to https://domain.com/webmail but all webmail clients are hidden.
