Set Zone TTL by record type

Pete Schaefers shared this idea 2 years ago
Not Planned

Please add check boxes to specify which record type to modify. (A, AAAA, NS, SOA, MX, etc.)

I think now it does all A, AAAA, SOA, and NS records at once. In my case the use would be for setting SOA and NS to a different value.

Also, there is not a way to select all in the current interface. Ideally we need a select all check box at the top of the list (not a separate setting below, like the sync option) so we can search first, then select all.

Pete,

Can you tell me a little more about how you would use this? A more concrete example of the workflow always helps us better understand building the best solution

Simple example:

You want migrate a server's accounts, so you set the TTL for them to something very short, like 300. This will work fine as it it as far as shortening TTL, but for a large number of accounts, a select all option would also be really nice so you don't have to individually click each account!

But once you have moved the accounts and want to restore a more normal TTL (e.g 14400 for most, but 86400 for SOA and NSs) you can't do that. It's one or the other, so you go with 14400, followed by individually visiting each account to adjust SOA and NSs!

Whether it's a migration scenario or other situation, a one size fits all records doesn't work.

Pete,

Thanks for the quick response! I can definitely see how this would be frustrating when updating many domains. I know we have some usability projects coming up in the future for interfaces. I'll mark this as not planned until we get it on a roadmap, and then come back here to provide updates once we do!

I think ideally, a check-mark all option, and check-boxes for record type (A AAAA SOA NS MX CNAME TXT and definitely ALL) would be great. I look forward to hearing back at that time.
