As a cPanel User or System Administrator, I would like CNAME Flattening support in cPanel & WHM.

Opening this to gauge interest in CNAME flattening support within cPanel & WHM. We've had a couple of direct requests for it, specifically with regard to the root of a domain, but I'm trying to determine more about how administrators, and possibly users, would utilize this.

Hello!

We will be updating PowerDNS to 4.9.x later this year and have found it capable of CNAME flattening here:

Great that you opened this, but by doing so - you've proved the point that cPanel doesn't actually read feature requests. This has been requested numerous times already.

This case was actually opened by Dustin, one of the Product Owners here at cPanel, as he's doing some research into how his specific feature would be used and implemented.

I mean... did you read my actual message? I realized Dustin is WITH cP. Kinda obvious with the username and all. My point is that this has already been asked for numerous times.

There are a lot of CDN or security proxy services that can only be used on the root URL with CNAME flattening (or whatever you want to call it, I think ANAME and ALIAS records are alternate names used by different providers). This has actually improved in recent years with more of these providers offering an IP for the apex, but the service is often better with flattening.

Having an ANAME/ALIAS also provides options for hosts that want to create their own CDN for hosted sites, although GeoDNS might be better for this in some cases https://features.cpanel.net/topic/add-geodns-support-to-cpanel-and-whm-when-using-powerdns

It would be helpful to have CNAME flattening available for clients to setup on their own in cPanel, and also as something providers could configure in the DNS zone templates (if they want to route all hosted sites through one of these services by default).
