Disable Paper Lantern depreciation message until Jupiter theme is translated

Completed

As a web-hosting provider, I would like cPanel to not display the Paper Lantern depreciation message or the link to the Jupiter theme until Jupiter is usable by non english speaking users so that non english speaking users can continue to use cPanel.

Currently the Jupiter theme is not usable for non english speaking users.

On the latest edge version (102) there is a bar that reads (in english) :

"The Paper Lantern theme is now deprecated and will be removed. We strongly recommend you make Jupiter the default theme for all cPanel accounts. For more information, read our cPanel Deprecation Plan documentation. Switch to Jupiter"

Please imagine this bar written in a language you don't understand.

Non english speaking users will likely click on Switch to Jupiter without understanding what they are doing.

Once they have done this they are presented with the Jupiter theme which is currently less than 20% of it is translated.

The search bar that used to allow to search the icons has been removed and the other search bar is only in English.

The Solutions page is only in English

The left menu is only in English (Tools, Solutions)

A lot of the Remaining interface is only in English ("Email Disk usage", "Email Deliverability", "Spam Filters", "Zone Editor", "Dynamic DNS", "SSL/TLS Status").

We have contacted cPanel support about this. There is currently no way to apply a translation ourselves and the bug report seems to be in low priority.

Please pause the depreciation of Paper Lantern until Jupiter is translated to all languages.

Thank you for this request. There is internal focus on the future of our translations at the moment. Much of our current translations date back over 5 years and, as you've observed, have large gaps. While Jupiter is new, Paper Lantern also has a large amount of untranslated (or poorly translated) strings throughout as well. Like you, we too feel that the situation is not ideal with either theme.

While we cannot delay the removal of Paper Lantern, we are planning an internal project to translate all interface strings in a continuous fashion and focus our list of supported languages on the markets that matter the most to our customers like you.

I'd like to learn more about your specific situation. Could you share the ticket ID from your conversation with support with me?

Will Jupiter allow us to change the support links in the Solutions sections so we can at least have the support articles written in French ?

In a near-future release, yes. There are a number of customization features on the docket for Jupiter in an upcoming release or two, with content-customization like that is chief among them.

Why on earth is this deprecation notice displaying in our customer's cPanels? All that does is give them worry that something is wrong and it makes us look bad. This should only be displayed in WHM. Honestly, sometimes I just don't get what's in the heads of cPanel developers.

And is there a way to remove the deprecation notice from all of my customer's cPanels?

I understand things need to move on and upgrade, but at this point change everything only to english without even translating the most of it is strange.

Another crazy idea from the cpanel developers. Remember the situation when you decided to change the WHM interface. Then, due to numerous requests and complaints, the classic interface was left and also made it possible to select the default. What's the problem with leaving the interface as a paper letter? It has a beautiful view with icons. Have you seen your new "Jupiter"? That is a shame!!! Why don't you ask your customers before making a major change?

Yesterday we announced that we are delaying the rollout of cPanel & WHM v102 in order to address feedback...and one of those items is the deprecation notice we're discussing here.

We heard you all loud and clear that it's much too soon to encourage current Paper Lantern users to move directly. That deprecation message applied way to much pressure to rush a move and caused end-user confusion.

In v102.0.4 (PH-17696) we pulled this deprecation message out entirely. This build is working its way through EDGE and CURRENT tiers as I write this.

When we get closer to the full removal of Paper Lantern before our next LTS release, you may see it return in order to encourage everyone to move away from end-of-life software or to move before it becomes absolutely mandatory. But for now, there's no reason to cause confusion or panic.

There's more changes intended for cPanel & WHM v102 in response to feedback before it releases fully; you can read more about them over in https://features.cpanel.net/topic/22339-make-lts-paper-lantern-at-least-until-jupiter-is-100-consistent-and-mature#comment-57169
