Feature Request Site Downtime
On March 28th, 2018 at approximately 1:30 pm CST the server housing the cPanel Feature Request site’s hypervisor unexpectedly failed. While we have been able to bring the Feature Request site back online, we have experienced an issue that has resulted in a loss of all data dating back to September of 2017.
What Happened?
In anticipation of any catastrophic damage Hurricane Harvey may cause here in Houston, cPanel copied the Feature Request site from its server located in Houston to a datacenter in Dallas. This helped us ensure the maximum amount of uptime. We discovered last week that after completing that copy, we did not adjust the automated backups. This means that the site housed on the live feature request site was not being backed up.
Where are we now?
The copy of the Feature Request Site on the Houston server is where we're starting. Unfortunately, that means the loss of all comments, votes, and requests submitted since then.
What's next?
The cPanel Community and its involvement in the never-ending goal of creating the best control panel on the market is extremely important to us. While we are working on potential ways to restore the missing feature requests, it will be a very manual and error-prone process.
In the meantime, if you had submitted any feature requests during this time frame, we ask that you please resubmit your ideas so that they can be reviewed and added to the site quickly.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us directly: community@cpanel.net
