Disable Mail Client Automatic Configuration Scripts
As a web-hosting provider, I would like to set the ability to disable mail client automatic configuration scripts because many email clients are no longer supported.
In our experience, they cause more problems than they solve. Mainly because the only ones available are for old email clients no longer supported by their creators.
- Support for Windows Live Mail ended January 2017
- Support for Outlook 2000 ended July 2009
- Support for Outlook Express ended 2006
On our servers, the configuration scripts all configure the client to use the account's domain name via SSL/TLS. Clients this old don't see cPanel as an approved certificate authority, so at least with our configuration, most of these scripts will fail to work.
I don't think these scripts should be disabled completely, in case there are some cPanel users out there that can still use them. However, I think if the functionality to disable them was introduced, many users would disable them.
This ability might be implemented as a part of this feature: https://features.cpanel.net/topic/ability-to-customise-the-mail-client-configuration-page-in-cpanel
But it doesn't have to be, so I figured I would put it in its own request.
