CalDAV Support (Shared Calendars)

I know we have WebDAV a.k.a. WebDISK with v11, but what about CalDAV support? Possible? If so, how? Anyone?

Syncing for CalDAV clients is available in 11.50, which reached production last week. In 11.52 we intend to add support for ActiveSync, pre-populated shared address books, and more.

Seriously need this implemented..

we need shared calendars and contacts, like Gmail

Yes, we need this badly to do project/resource management at our company.... and it appears that people have been asking for it since at least 2005. Storing simple ics files using webDAV doesn't provide the functionality because there can only be one publisher and many subscribers, but not true sharing of the calendar w/ multiple people editing it. You need calDAV service for that (as provided by google calendars). In the previously referenced thread, there was a question about system vs. user ownership of apache processes, but I don't think there is a big security issue for users because one has to have a username and password to access each calDAV calendar group. Can we have a real current answer from cpanel about implementing this soon?

I saw some comments about waiting for the successor of EasyApache 3 before addressing this, but it that necessary? If the current cpanel allows account-level login for things like webmail (horde, etc.) then why can't you implement calDAV access to calendar data stored on each user's webdisk? As far as I can tell, the only problem is that a slightly different file structure is needed, compared to simple ics calendars where a user's home calendar is defined properly in xml. When I try to create a calDAV calendar via a client like thunderbird lightning or mac OS iCal, it gives an error because there is no home calendar defined. Anyway, let us know what you can do.... Thanks!

Why are we waisting time and not implementing such a useful feature?

Come on cPanel you are better than this!

Dear cPanel staff,

After creating a ticket in order to configure properly Horde+Kronolith+ics calendards, the technical analyst pointed me this thread saying that what we really wanted for our customers was CalDAV which is not yet supported on cPanel.

When can we expect udpates on this feature?

photo

After creating a ticket in order to configure properly Horde+Kronolith+ics calendards,

FYI, there is already a feature request for Horde

photo

This is a MUST HAVE feature...

...people are switching to Google Services because they can have Drive, Calendar, AddressBook fully integrated with emails. There is no way to offer same quality if you don't implement this feature.

photo
1

We need this feature. People want their contacts and calendars synchronized on all their devices.

photo
2

Just commenting because current version of horde already supports this feature (or partially) but somehow CPanel authentication limits it's usage since there's an authentication prompt where the email credentials don't work.

There's a Subscription URL when one goes to manage calendars which should be available.

photo

No way to sync calendars, contacts, emails, notes to outlook and Mobile Devices. which is what delayed this cpanel more since we have demanding customers working with that.

photo
1

It would be great if there was a sytem for users to sync calanders, outside of the webmails.

photo
1

Completely agree this is the one killer feature that needs full support.

photo
3

Still needing this feature to stay competitive. I have clients looking to move due to no contacts or calendar sync . . . if this keeps on, I'll need to move away from cPanel as well . . .

photo

With an updated EasyApache 3(.26?) finally out now, new UI, etc. It seems like this is even farther off? That is, unless the UI will be more or less kept for EA4? That was a pretty big delay on the more common tiers. Here's hoping. I understand some of the implications in the thread linked, but that doesn't mean I want CalDAV any less! teehee!

photo

that is a must have feature in cpanel. we need shared calendars and contacts, like Gmail so cpanel please act faster

photo

more than a must have!

photo

I agree!

photo

Would certainly be good to see this added.

photo

With the growth of Mobile, Apple and gmail I really can't believe this still isn't a standard feature!

My business uses Hostmoster, and we currently cannot use the CalDAV functionality in Horde. They tell us it is because of the way cpanel controls the login process. If you could modify cpanel to allow the use of Horde's CalDAV, it would help us out a lot. As it is, we have to use Google Calendar. It would be better if we could have everything in once place.

Whilst I appreciate this is a feature request forum, its concerning to see a well supported feature request forum be allowed to go without a substantive response for such a long time - simple question, is this going to be included in a near-future release or not?

photo
1

I agree. Today's email requirements need to be met.

+1 on this.

We are currently working on implementing both CalDAV and CardDAV support. We don't have an ETA on delivery right now.

photo

Glad you are gonna add it :)

photo

Thanks for working on this, I am going to love this Cpanel feature!

photo
1

Glad you are working on this. We need such an option.

photo

It is great to see this is in progress. Any ETA? Would love to know as we need to make a decision... Wait a couple weeks and have a solution, or invest now because you can't provide it soon enough.

Thank you, we love Cpanel.

Hello,

The team has been working quite diligently on the feature. We should have some basic capabilities in cPanel & WHM version 11.50. Basic capabilities means being able to manage events on a calendar across multiple devices, as long as the device can "speak" CalDAV. Event invites should work.

photo
1

That's great news. Thank you.

photo
1

Perfect! Can't wait ti have it!!! :)

photo
1

When does version 11.50 come out?

photo
5

Hello,

I'm pleased to inform you that the next development release of 11.49 will contain the basic support for CalDAV, and CardDAV, that I mentioned earlier! This means the functionality will be part of 11.50.

Anyone that uses the EDGE tier should get the feature next (or whenever we produce our next development build). Production builds of 11.50 should begin appearing late April, or early May.

photo
1

Great news. Thanks so much.

photo
2

When it would be realeased the 11.49 version?

photo
1

So... I'm running 10.50, and this feature shows at feature manager is enabled but nothing shows at cPanel...

There's no "You can find your CardDAV set up information within the Calendars and Contacts Client Configuration interface of your cPanel account."

What should I do to make this work?

photo
1

If the interface is not showing up for you, please open a support ticket so we can investigate. Thank you.

photo
1

Hello,

I manage to fix this by:

  1. Enable Horde;
  2. "WHM Home » Service Configuration » Service Manager" and enable "cPanel DAV Daemon";
  3. Go to firewall config and open the ports of this service;

I don't really know why, by default, even the ports on firewall weren't updated to enabled this service, or why I wan't warned I needed Horde or it wasn't automatically enabled. The same goes to the service.

Thank you.

Syncing for CalDAV clients is available in 11.50, which reached production last week. In 11.52 we intend to add support for ActiveSync, pre-populated shared address books, and more.

Does "production" mean CURRENT or RELEASE tier? What version is the latest STABLE version. I'm showing the latest RELEASE as 11.48.4.4 in WHM.

photo
1

Same here. Upgrading only gets to 11.48.4 (build 4).

photo
1

There is a search function on the cPanel documentation website. Search for "production" + "release" and take a look at the first result.

Check the "Update preferences" on your server to see what Tier you're on.

photo
1

"Production" is a general term that describes the CURRENT, RELEASE, and STABLE tiers. If the version number is even (e.g. 11.48, 11.50) then it is a production release/build.

photo
1

11.50.0.6 is showing as a "Release Candidate" and not a "Production" build for me in WHM.

photo
1

Hi Kenneth

11.50 is on "Release Candidate" not "Release" or "STABLE" as you said "production" means

"Production" is a general term that describes the CURRENT, RELEASE, and STABLE tiers. --Kenneth

CURRENT - Versions on this tier are tested and verified, but may not contain all of the proposed functionality --cPanel documentation

Once updates reach the CURRENT tier they are stable and ready for a production environment. RELEASE means they are stable and all functionality has been implemented.

photo
1

Hello,

I see the documentation is out of date. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. The description of CURRENT is no longer "...may not contain all of the proposed functionality."

We consider RC (release candidate) to be production worthy. It is tested according to the knowledge we have, and ready for production use.

photo
1

Side note: How do you classify a "Release Candidate" versus a "Release?" Does it have to go through a certain time-frame without any bug reports before it moves from candidate to production?

photo
2

Active sync would be awesome. Especially if it worked with Outlook 2010, and 2013 for contacts, calendars and tasks. Looking forward to this.

The feature request for ActiveSync support is here: https://features.cpanel.net/topic/activesync-with-horde-5x

Both newer versions of Outlook, as well as Android and Windows devices are targets for support.
