BIND and PowerDNS allow adding of arbitrary (not yet explicitly supported) DNS record types, using RFC 3597 syntax:

example.com.TYPE257\# 8 000569737375653B

Adding support for this to cPanel will allow early adopters to do sophisticated and progressive DNS configuration, without additional cPanel feature requests.

From my research, it appears that PowerDNS also supports RFC3597 syntax.
