Add remote backup destination Google Drive

I must disagree, Google advertises that Drive can also be used in the business environment and with their product Drive being apart of Apps for Work bundle; that adds some extra protections to drive security not offered in the consumer version. It all boils down to company policy allowing to offload server data into Google's realm. However there are individuals, consultants, and smaller companies where there maybe only a few people managing a server that drive offering 15GB for free is pretty tempting to be used as a backup and disaster recovery solution.

We run Google Apps for Works ad it has revolutionized our company's team integration through cloud archive storage. Besides being extremely reliable, much ahead of Dropbox and OnDrive, for instance, security is a must. We and some partners are implementing a shared Google Apps account for safely exchanging files for a joint venture project without allowing employees to download certain files, only viewing them via web browser.

Surely Google Cloud Storage is more appropriate for this kind of use case (server backups)? 15 GB, while free with Google Drive, will only cost you $0.15 per month with Google Cloud Storage ;-)

Google Drive is also a storage solution for several Google Apps for Works and Google Apps for Education.

In this specific case it's less about the difficulty of the request, and more about what we'd be willing to give up to have this instead. Isn't it more strange that no kind of encryption is available around the backupfiles?

More and more backup destinations are requestes as feature. DropBox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive etc.

If you look at the TOS of these services they often reserve the right to check the content of files in the vault for advertising or prevention of crime.

This isn't yet on the roadmap, but it's certainly in the back of our minds. The number of votes that a request has don't directly equate to attention from the devs, unfortunately, so I can't give you a threshold that needs to be reached here. Just know that it's still something we're considering, but that it's not being added to a version yet.

PLease consider there are many small companies which would benefit from this. It would be great for us, as software providers and system admins, to be able to store client's backups directly in their own google account, The fact that it isn't super neat or "adequate for business" doesn't mean it's not super useful.

Consider, Benny, there were other votes on previous requests, you have “redirected” to here. I thought it was a strategy for strengthening the discussion, but it now seems quite on the contrary: you definitely took Google Drive out of “CPanel's roadmap” after this “request thread clean up”.

I can definitely see how it feels like that, but that implies a motive that didn't exist. Our goal was, as I said, to determine which of the grouped feature requests were actually being voted on. The request that I split up included Dropbox, Google Drive, and Google Cloud Storage. Doing so, and asking people to vote, gave us a better idea of which one to spend time on when we eventually had time to spend.

That's the workaround I believe most people use. By the way, try Insync (Windows, Mac or Linux) instead of regular Google Drive Sync and your experience will even be better.

What we're looking for is for a direct connection solution CPanel-GoogleDrive, so we'd be able to easily backup AND restore, without downloading-uploading-downloading-uploanding rounds.
