Mark Message as Read - Only When Message is Opened

I would like to see a way to mark a message as "read" only when the email has been opened.

If I set it to "never" then even if I open an email it doesn't mark it as "read". If I set it to "5 seconds" or more, I could just click the message to preview it really quick then click another message to avoid it being marked as read but the issue is the next message you click on will be marked as read. Once an email is selected, you can't unselect a message unless you go to the "Select" options which is a hassle. The other workaround would be to click on an email that is already read to avoid your unread messages from being marked as read. It would be easier if there was an option to only mark a message as read if you open it.
